Florence: Boboli Gardens and Villa La Loggia
The places of the Medici in Florence UNESCO heritage sites
Syusy Blady gives us a tour of the Boboli Gardens, an incredible work of art commissioned by Cosimo I de’ Medici’s wife Eleonora di Toledo. The Boboli Gardens are also one of the Medici places in Tuscany, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It serves as a symbol of the Medici family’s majesty and an inspiration for some of the biggest gardens in Europe.
This strong family’s history is entwined with that of their rivals, the Pazzi, leading us to Villa La Loggia, the scene of the well-known Pazzi Conspiracy, a place full of intrigues and hatred. A look into the dark side of Renaissance Florence, combining artistic beauty with historical tragedies, is also documented in a well-known Leonardo da Vinci drawing, a copy of which is kept in the Giunti Publishing House’s archives.
Are there still descendants of these two families? Syusy meets Emanuela, a descendant of the Medici, who tells us about a symbolic reconciliation.
