Exploring the Medici Villas, UNESCO Heritage Sites, by camper
The Medici Villa of Cerreto Guidi
The Slow Tour through the Medici Villas of Tuscany in Florence continues
In this episode of the web series on the Tuscan Medici Villas, a UNESCO World Heritage site, we follow Syusy Blady to the Medici Villa of Cerreto Guidi, near the Fucecchio Marsh, where Cosimo I de’ Medici used to hunt.
The villa, commissioned by Cosimo himself, is connected to the mysterious death of his daughter Isabella de’ Medici, which occurred here in 1576. Isabella, one of the most cultured women of her time, died tragically, possibly at the hands of her husband, Paolo Giordano Orsini.
Through family portraits and newly discovered letters, a story of love and intrigue emerges, still shrouded in many doubts. Renaissance music and madrigals dedicated to Isabella enrich the narrative, evoking an era of passions and torments.
