Archaeological treasures in the Poeti Gulf: from the harbour of Le Grazie, you can easily reach the archaeological site of Varignano Vecchio. An old Roman villa built near a fount, where you can still spot the finds of the old water tank, of the oil mill for the olive trees nearby and, of course, the Roman SPA covered in mosaics.
The water was stored in a huge cistern with a flow of 700,000 lt., a true masterpiece of hydraulic architecture! The villa had also a small harbour where ships used to berth to stock up with freshwater. The olive groves all around already existed during the Roman era…
